A (Re)Introduction
For those who don't know me, I’m Kerryn. Founder and Personal Stylist at Aura Personal Styling. Thank you for being here! It means the world.
I am a South African born, Sydney based Personal Stylist, living on the Northern Beaches with my Husband, Daughter and boisterous Beagle, Freddie. In April, I celebrated 6 years in Sydney. I still pinch myself that I get to live in such a beautiful city.
Nearly 4 years ago, I left my job as a solicitor and took time off to recover from burnout. Suffering from low self-confidence, I signed up for a styling course aimed at teaching woman how to determine their style and dress for their body. I finished the course with a new found self-confidence and a firm belief in the power of style.
Finding my personal style and learning how to dress for my body, allowed me to clothe myself in the confidence I needed to take risks and build the professional life I wanted to build.
It has been a long, bumpy and winding road to get to where I am. There have been many tears and times I fell back into old habits, but the universe works in mysterious ways and it kept nudging me in the right direction.
I signed up with the Australian Style Institute to complete my Personal Styling Certification and realised, almost immediately, that Personal Styling was what I was meant to be doing.
Empowering women with the tools they need to express themselves and get dressed with confidence is an absolute dream come true.
It turns out, the things that come naturally to you and take up all of your free thoughts are probably the things you should spend your life doing. Quelle suprise!
I have come to believe that, no matter what other’s may think, Fashion isn't frivolous.
It's empowering.
It’s a way to express your yourself, present yourself to the world and dress for who you are and who you are becoming.
If you’re looking for a sign to unlock your personal style and lean into the power of a killer outfit (and how to put one together) - Penny is it!
Why Penny, Why Substack?
I launched the Aura newsletter in July 2023, as a fun passion project that allowed me to combine my two (professional) loves, Fashion and Writing (You can read some of the older editions here).
Since launching my newsletter, I’ve had a baby, raised a one year old, and read many many Substacks, falling in love with this community.
My friend, Sophie - Hey Soph! - suggested that I shift to Substack to help my newsletter reach more women who love reading (and chatting) about personal style, fashion, books and all the other artsy, beautiful and, sometimes, challenging things that give our lives joy and meaning (You can read/subscribe to Sophie’s Substack here).
I’m taking her advice and joining this glorious space with Penny - For thoughts on Personal Style, Fashion and it's intersection with life, motherhood and everything in between.
Penny is a monthly newsletter that will provide:
personal style tips (how to determine it, unlock to and lean into it);
fun, style prompts and outfit inspo, so you can get more wear out of the clothes you already own;
books, podcast and series recommendations;
Fashion Brand recs and pieces I love or am eyeing out; and
A place to ask for fashion advice from a certified Personal Stylist who wants to help you be your best dressed self.
For paid subscribers: you’ll have a dedicated chat to make personal shopping and outfit inspiration requests, share outfits with me and the community to ask for advice or inspire others to get dressed, and have a dedicated space to ask me your style questions. I’ll also share any fun finds I’m eyeing out or extra fashion thoughts on the fly.
Any outfit inspo and personal shopping requests will be shared in a separate email once a month just for you!
I hope you like it here. I’m so grateful for the support.
Yay so excited for this!
Sophie is clearly a genius and a good friend! Substack is an amazing community. Welcome! Looking forward to reading your articles!
